HOME GROWN
A collection of twelve still life oil on board paintings holding stories of ‘home’; fruit grown in our garden, clay vessels made in home studios, redgum blossom from neighbours, and other gifts from the gardens of friends. Each of the objects holds a story of its grower or maker, or the materials that were used to create it. Contained within are the stories of people, place and connection.
Samantha Dennison is an Albany/Kinjarling based artist working across painting and ceramics to explore ideas of stillness, space, and place. Best known for her still life oil paintings, Dennison’s practice draws on her background as art teacher, potter and parent living in a regional community, and is underpinned by her interest in objects as containers of meaning and conveyors of narrative. Dennison has a Bachelor of Education (Art) from Edith Cowan University. She was winner of the City of Albany Acquisitive Award 2023, finalist for national awards including the 2024 Mandorla Art Prize, 2023 Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize and The Jury Art Prize 2023, and won Highly Commended in the York Botanic Art Prize 2023. Samantha’s work is held in the Royal Perth Hospital Collection and private collections in Australia and internationally.
