Petra is a Melbourne based artist who has worked in the mediums of drawing, printmaking and oil painting.
Her work comprises of subjects such as portraiture, still life, landscapes and streetscapes.
Petra completed her bachelor of fine art and design at the Phillip Institute of Technology. Her work has been selected as finalist in many art prizes such as: The Shirley Hannon National portrait award, Albany Art Prize, John Leslie Art Prize, Rick Amor self -portrait award, The Whyalla art prize, The James Farrell self-portrait award and more.
Petra has won the James Farrell self portrait award twice with both works in the Castlemaine regional gallery collection. Two large paintings were purchased by the Nillumbik shire Council one ‘The Beach’ and another painted for the ten-year anniversary of the 2009 bushfires called ‘The Beast’.
Petra’s current work comprises of isolated houses set mostly in remote locations. The origin of her current work derives from one small black and white photo of her mother in her Sunday best, standing in front of her ‘house’, which is nothing more than a three-room fibro bungalow with an outdoor toilet. It is set in a paddock full of dry grass and Scotch thistle. This was in Marie Street Oak Park, part of the title of Petra’s 2022 exhibition with A.K. Bellinger gallery.
“The depiction of light in my work is paramount, it drives my artistic decisions”.
