Nuan Ho
THIS IS NUAN HO

Nuan Ho (b.1995) is an Australian artist based in Sydney, graduating from National Art School in 2018. Using primarily oil paint, his studio practise continues in the tradition of figurative painting. Nuan Ho’s recent works explore the abstraction within figurative painting with an emphasis on experimental application of paint. His paintings are built up with thick layers of oil paint that are scrapped away then built up again, often over an existing painting. The use of palette knives and scrapers introduce elements of chance, such as dripping and smearing. These accidents can often lead to the image taking a vastly different direction or in some cases can become a new starting point entirely. While his paintings remain part of the figurative tradition it is arrived at through the process of abstraction and controlled chance.
