COSIMA SCALES
MUSHROOM SKIN

Cosima is a Brisbane-based painter who produces intimate works from observation. The paintings in Mushroom Skin form part of an ongoing series of still life works made from close contemplation of objects to explore colour, shape and mark-making. The primary focus of these new paintings is on the texture of ordinary things, using gestural marks to describe varied surfaces like the soft crumb and icing of a cake, or the tender surface of a mushroom.

Cosima completed a Master of Visual Art by research at the Queensland College of Art in 2018, and has since held solo exhibitions in Inverell, Brisbane and Melbourne. In 2020, she was a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship.
