"My home, Marrawah, rests on the far Northwest coast of lutruwita/Tasmania. It’s a remote and rugged place, exposed to big swells and roaring winds. I grew up there, immersed in the land and sea; surfing, swimming, diving, fossicking on the beach, wandering through the coastal scrub, dealing with the isolation and watching the wild weather.
For now, I live on the southern end of the island, in nipaluna/Hobart. As I spend time away from Marrawah, a desire to understand my evolving relationship to home deepens. Return, Recall employs memory, familiarity and knowing to re-‐present a very felt experience of place, in visual form. I engage with this process as a way to access, maintain and nurture a connection to place. I recall -‐ the presence of Preminghana, the endemic Netley Bay gums, the dried bull kelp on weathered rocks, the swell lines that match the arc of the bay -‐ and I return.
I pay my deepest respects to the traditional owners of the land my work was made on the Muwinina people of nipaluna/Hobart, and the Peeraper people of Marrawah. I acknowledge the beautiful mountain, Preminghana, often portrayed in my paintings, as a place of great significance to Tasmanian Aboriginal people."

Zoe’s intimate lived experience of this unique landscape and her deep, evolving relationship to that place, informs her painting practice.
Zoe graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Tasmania, School of Arts and Media in 2018. She has exhibited nationally and her work is held in private collections around Australia.
